Gate valve production involves numerous precision processes, requiring rigorous control at every step, from raw material selection to final inspection.
The first step in gate valve production is material preparation. Major components such as the valve body and bonnet are typically made of cast steel, stainless steel, or ductile iron, with the appropriate material selected based on the operating conditions. Precision sand casting or investment casting techniques are used during the casting phase to ensure smooth internal flow paths within the valve body and reduce fluid resistance. After casting, annealing is performed to eliminate internal stresses, and X-ray or ultrasonic testing is performed to detect internal defects.
The next step is machining. Components such as the valve body, bonnet, gate, and stem are machined to design precision through processes such as turning, milling, and drilling. The valve seat sealing surface is typically machined using CNC machine tools to ensure the clearance with the gate meets standard requirements. For high-pressure gate valves, the sealing surfaces may require overlay welding with hard alloy (such as Stellite) to enhance wear and corrosion resistance. Machined components undergo dimensional inspection and surface roughness assessment to ensure conformance to drawing requirements.
Assembly is the core process of gate valve production. In a clean environment, the valve body, gate, stem, and seals are assembled sequentially, with strict preload control to prevent deformation due to overtightening or leakage due to undertightening. After assembly, pressure testing, including water pressure strength testing and air tightness testing, is required to verify the valve's sealing performance at the rated pressure. Some high-end gate valves also undergo high- or low-temperature simulation testing to ensure stability in extreme environments.
Finally, gate valves undergo final inspection, including visual inspection, functional testing, and factory document review. Qualified products are accompanied by material certification, test reports, and operating instructions to ensure proper installation and maintenance. The production process of gate valves integrates material science, machining and quality control technology. Only by strictly following standardized processes can high-performance, long-life gate valve products be manufactured to meet the stringent needs of the industrial field.
